About Us

It Started with the Ocean

Some people are drawn to the sea — we were called by it. From an early age, the ocean wasn't just a place to visit; it was a pull, a calling, a world worth understanding. That fascination with coastal life and marine ecosystems never faded.

In 1997, that passion led us to pack up and move to the southeastern coast of Wilmington, North Carolina, to pursue a degree in Marine Biology. Nestled between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic, Wilmington became more than a college town — it became home.

"Wilmington is where the river meets the ocean and Southern charm meets salt water. Once it gets in your blood, there's no leaving."

Wilmington, NC — Where Saltwater Runs Deep

The greater Wilmington area is one of the most storied stretches of coastline in the American South. From the pristine sands of Wrightsville Beach to the historic waters of Fort Fisher, this region is a living testament to the seafaring spirit that has defined southeastern North Carolina for centuries.

The waters off this coast are among the most productive on the entire East Atlantic — home to loggerhead sea turtles, abundant marine wildlife, and some of the finest sport fishing anywhere in the country. The Cape Fear River feeds into an estuary that teems with life, and the barrier islands beyond shelter ecosystems that are truly one of a kind.

This is the world that shaped us — and it's the world that shapes everything we make.

Marine Biology Roots

Our founder studied Marine Biology on the Wilmington coast — a background that gives us a deep respect for the ocean ecosystems we celebrate in every design.

Saltwater Culture

From kayaking the Cape Fear marshes to surf fishing at Kure Beach, salty Southern coastal life isn't a theme for us — it's the life we actually live.

American Pride

We love this country deeply. The Americana spirit, the flag, the freedom — they run just as deep as the saltwater. Both are baked into everything we create.

Two Passions, One Purpose

After years of living the coastal Southern life and carrying a profound pride for this country, we knew we wanted to build something that brought those two worlds together. Not just merchandise — but a statement of who we are and where we're from.

That's why we launched two sister brands, each celebrating one side of that identity:

Freedom Culture

A celebration of country, flag, and the American spirit. For those who wear their patriotism proudly — every stitch a tribute to the land we love.

More Than Gear — It's a Way of Life

Every product we make carries a piece of this coastline and a piece of this country. We're not a corporate brand dreaming up coastal aesthetics from an office building. We're the people who grew up watching the sun rise over the Atlantic, who studied the tides, who fished the Cape Fear, and who fly the flag with genuine pride.

When you wear Off The Hook Salty Southern Gear or carry anything from Freedom Culture, you're not just wearing a logo — you're wearing a story that started right here on the southeastern coast of North Carolina and grew into a love letter to everything we hold dear.

Thank you for being part of our story. Whether you found us through a love of the coast, a love of country, or both — you belong here. Welcome to the family.
